Join artist Emma Welty for a take about her current exhibit “Have Much to Say but My Mouth Is Full of Water” in the Library's Gallery Space.
Emma Welty is an artist, educator, researcher and writer with a textile centered studio practice. Born and raised in Woodbury, Welty completed a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Fibers and Art History and an MFA/MA in Visual Art and Art History at Purchase College.
Welty’s work utilizes their ancestral traditions of Armenian carpet weaving and needlelace making in order to explore economies of cloth labor, notions of “heirloom” and cultural transmissions within a digital diaspora.
Welty just completed a yearlong residency at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York and has recently shown at Studio Hill Gallery in Woodbury, CT and Piano Craft Gallery in Boston, MA. Having trained with textile conservators at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, Welty also runs a small textile mending and conservation business.
